Who We Are
In 2001, a diverse group of organizations and individuals committed to improving outcomes for young children growing up in Southwest Washington decided to join forces. Support for Early Learning & Families was born to unite the efforts of these key players.* While many things have changed since 2001, unfortunately, the challenges facing young children and their families still exist. More than ever, families need support services, and younger and younger children have serious social and emotional needs. The pandemic crumbled the foundation of child care, which had already been in crisis for many years. In fact, we lost more child care slots in Southwest Washington during the pandemic than any other region in the state.
However, this report is full of opportunity and optimism. Notwithstanding the challenges over the last few years, new opportunities have emerged and the vision and dreams we have for our community, for our children, and for our future are on the horizon.
